Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a unique geographical location linking three continents; Europe, Asia and Africa. It is the largest economy in the Middle East and the richest Arab country in the region.  Saudi Arabia is sometimes called “The Land of The Two Holy Mosques” in reference to Mecca and Medina, the two holiest places of Islam. Saudi Arabia has centuries-old traditions, often derived from Arab civilization. The main factors that influence the culture are Islamic heritage, Bedouin traditions and its historical role as an ancient trade center.

Kingdom’s modern economic history began with the discovery of oil in 1938 and the oil boom in 1970’s. The Vision 2030 reform programme, which was launched in 2016, started to restructure Saudi Arabia, not only financially but also socially. Pillars or Saudi economy have been oil and gas and diversifying the economy is one of the reform goals.

Construction sector in Saudi Arabia is preparing for the introduction of a range of projects under the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative. This holds high potential also for foreign companies in indoors hygiene markets for example in hospitals, health care centers and pilgrim sites. However, companies should pay close attention to the latest building codes, legislation and standards related to construction and contracting. 

The health sector in Saudi Arabia has been experiencing a rapid growth in the construction of healthcare institutions, both governmental and private, as part of the massive process of development unfolding in the Kingdom through consecutive development plans for more than 40 years. A recent World Health Organization study put Saudi Arabia in the forefront of countries in terms of health system quality. According to WHO data, Saudi Arabia ranks 26th in the list of health systems of 190 countries worldwide in 2017.
